Professional Experience
Professional Experience Prior to 2010
- June 2009-September 2009
- Summer Internship: Research on statistical Japanese input methods
- Mentor: Yasuo Kida
- We improved Japanese input method on iPhone based on a statistical approach.
- September 2008-May 2009
- Joint Research: Text mining from query logs
- Collaborator: Manabu Sassano
- Yahoo! JAPAN Research, Japan
- We plan to extract semantic categories from query logs using
semi-supervised learning algorithm.
- September 2008-March 2009
- Part-time Assistant Professor, Project Practice about Information
Media
- Kinki University, Japan
- We gave a series of lectures and exersizes for building dialogue
systems.
- July 2008-February 2009
- Joint Research: Lexical knowledge acquisition for machine
translation
- Collaborator: Masaaki Nagata
- NTT Communication Science Laboratories, Japan
- Continuation of last year's joint research. We participated in NTCIR-7
Patent Translation Task using the extracted bilingual dictionary.
- November 2007-February 2008
- Joint Research: Statistical machine translation with domain information
- Collaborator: Masaaki Nagata
- NTT Communication Science Laboratories, Japan
- We investigated a way to extract a domain specific bilingual dictionary
from Wikipedia.
- October 2007-March 2008
- Research Assistant
- Under guidance of Kentaro Inui
- Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan
- We are participating the project "Strategic Development of Fundamental
Technology for Advanced Robotics" funded by New Energy and Industrial
Technology Development Organization (NEDO), and working on developing
basic technologies like an automatic tagger of predicate-argument
structure.
- October 2007-March 2008
- Teaching Assistant, Computational Linguistics
- Nara Institute of Science and Technology
- April 2007-September 2007, Japan
- Teaching Assistant, Foundation of Artificial Intelligence
- Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan
- May 2007-August 2007
- Summer Research Intern
- Under guidance of Hisami Suzuki
- Microsoft Research, USA
- The task is to use web search query logs as a corpus to extract
semantic knowledge. We proposed an efficient algorithm for this task
based on the Espresso algorithm. To be presented in IJCNLP-08.
- Aug 2006-Feb 2007
- Joint Research: Statistical machine translation using syntactic and semantic information
- Collaborator: Masaaki Nagata
- NTT Communication Science Laboratories, Japan
- We applied the Japanese predicate-argument structure analyzer to
reorder the source side of the Japanese to English translation task
on the IWSLT 07.
- May 2005-March 2007
- Research Assistant: Opinion mining project
- Under guidance of Kentaro Inui
- Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan
- We added predicate-argument information to the Kyoto Text Corpus 3.0
(LAW 2007) and built a predicate-argument structure analyzer, annotating
not only verb but also event-nouns as predicates (PACLING 2007).
- August 2005-September 2005
- Summer Research Intern: Building semantically annotated dictionary for QA system
- Under guidance of Hisako Asano
- NTT Cyber Space Laboratories, Japan
- April 2004-July 2004
- Teaching Assistant, undergraduate Introduction to Computer Literacy
- Toho University, Japan
- December 2003-June 2004
-
- Programmer: Data integration of Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese
- Under guidance of Kikuo Maekawa
- National Institute for Japanese Language, Japan
- I joined the development of an speech corpus called "Corpus of
Spontaneous Japanese" on the last year of the project. We had
three sources of XMLs: transcriptions, phonetic information and
morphological annotation. We created one large XML from these three
kinds of XMLs and developed a GUI search interface called "Ankou" over
the entire corpus.
